| | | October 21, 2009 Revealing studies show that ease, taste, convenience, and low cost determine how most Americans eat. Unfortunately, this doesn't include many healthy meals. Research at Temple University conducted from 2004-2006 sheds some light on eating trends of Americans. Most Americans like to eat out, specifically at fast food restaurants. Compared to the findings in 2004, participants in 2006 were less likely to know about and order healthy items, less willing to pay more for healthy foods, and more likely to consider healthy foods bland than in 2004. "The results underscore the importance of competitively pricing healthy foods," stated Dr. Kelley E. Borradaile, PhD, of the Department of Public Health and the center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE), Temple University. Over 12,666 people (18-98 years old) were interviewed over the three-year trial period about their eating habits. Researchers found that on average they ate out 5 times weekly, usually at fast food restaurants. Those who ate out 4-6 times a week compared to 0-3 times had a significantly higher BMI. Read More | |
