Now, new findings indicate that something as simple as adding blueberries to your diet may protect against developing these diseases and conditions. But how is that possible? Studies performed at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center, provide promising data that may link eating blueberries to a reduction in belly fat and other risk factors associated with heart disease and metabolic syndrome. Steven Bolling, MD, cardiologist and head of the Cardioprotection Laboratory at the University of Michigan, stated, "The benefits of eating fruits and vegetables has been well researched, but our findings in regard to blueberries shows that naturally occurring chemicals they contain, such as anthocyanins, show promise in mitigating these health conditions."
