This week's issue of THB Undercover has stirred up quite a few comments on the website – a fair amount of praise and some criticism. If you did not get a chance to read Your Body Already Knows the Cure for Cancer, I hope you will. THB reader, Terrence calls it "one of the best and most succinct articles I've ever read about cancer." Angela writes, "This is the most informative, yet simplistic article I have ever read." And Pam says, "Thank you for speaking the truth." Andrew agrees with me that the medical establishment focuses too much on expensive, ineffective and potentially deadly "treatments" for cancer, while virtually ignoring the causes and prevention of the disease. "How about we devote more resources to examining the causes?" he asks. "And most importantly, focusing on how we can prevent it!" But it was not all kudos. Several of our readers took issue with my contention that most of us develop cancer because of our habits and lifestyle. "Sounds great," writes Ann. "But unfortunately there are plenty of people who have been doing all the "right" things for many decades and still get cancer." I have heard this argument more times than I can count and I believe it is totally off base. (Keep in mind, I am not talking about the rare individuals with a very strong genetic predisposition, or cases of early childhood cancers, etc.) Have the people that Ann is referring to really done all they can do? For decades? Very, very rarely is this the case. Did they maintain optimal vitamin D status year-round? Did they avoid fish contaminated with PCBs and hormone-pumped meats? Did they exercise consistently? Did they take supplements? Did they eat a low-glycemic diet? Most often the answers to these questions are no. But Robert says Ann has the right idea. "If it were this simple, those who always eat right would never get cancer." He also did not like my statement that in the vast majority of cases, cancer is a disease we give to ourselves. Robert notes that I did not back that up with evidence. He also suggests that my article serves a "healthy dose of guilt on those who have supposedly given cancer to themselves." This Part of the Aging Process Is OPTIONAL Creaky joints. Exhaustion. Bedroom "meltdowns." As unpleasant as these things are, there's just nothing we can do about it. It's a normal part of getting older. Right? WRONG. Thanks to a recent scientific breakthrough, you no longer have to accept aging as inevitable. Find out how to get your hands on this discovery before anyone else right here. In Most Cases, Cancer is Preventable… My evidence that cancer is primarily a disease that we "give to ourselves" comes from rigorous evaluations done by the International Agency for Research in Cancer. This group has concluded that in 90% of all cancer deaths, the disease is caused by lifestyle and environmental factors. That does not mean that cancer can be avoided in every case by eliminating these factors. In today's world, some of the risk factors for cancer are impossible to avoid. And I am certainly not implying that a young boy who lives downstream from an aluminum smelter in China and becomes sick, "gave himself cancer." But the fact remains that in the vast majority of cases, cancer (as well as heart disease, diabetes, and just about every degenerative disease) is caused by the choices we make and the habits we develop over a lifetime. Your Health is YOUR Responsibility I believe that our government is criminally liable for allowing some corporations to willfully harm people with their products. And I believe that many corporations are criminally liable for the misleading way in which certain products are marketed and risks are hidden. But that does not mean that the government or these organizations are responsible for your health. They are not. YOU are responsible for your health. Would you expect to get out of a speeding ticket by telling a police officer that you "didn't know the speed limit" on the road you were driving? Of course not. Ignorance is no excuse. Well, the same is true when it comes to your health. For example, millions of people consume chemical sweeteners, like aspartame, every day. Do you think it matters that these people "don't know" that this ingredient has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals (not to mention a host of other maladies)? Or what about the vegetable oils that we have been led to believe are healthy for decades? Consuming these oils in the quantities we consume them is proven to substantially increase the risk of cancer and heart disease. Does it matter that the manufacturers of these products have marketed them as safe, and in some cases, a healthier choice? It certainly does not matter to your body. Get caught breaking the speed limit and you are going to get a ticket. Expose your body to toxins and health hazards, and you will ultimately become sick – even if you had no idea of the risk. It is your responsibility to know those risks and avoid them. Pleading ignorance will not cut you a break. Your health – in fact, your life – depends on the knowledge you accumulate, the choices you make and the habits you develop.
