Researchers have isolated sulforaphane, a compound found in broccoli, that is showing promise of becoming a cure for cancer. Both in mice and human cell cultures, sulforaphane kills stem cells that create tumors and cause recurrence. These findings also parallel what epidemiologists have previously known: populations that eat a plant based diet high in fruits and vegetables like broccoli, have low rates of cancer compared to populations that eat an animal based diet common to our Western diet.
