| | | July 28, 2009 When it comes to eating out Americans are not willing to pay more for healthy dishes. They also consider healthy food items to taste bland compared to popular unhealthy food items according to a study conducted at Temple University. The study covered a three year period from 2004 to 2006 and surveyed the behaviors and attitudes that influenced the food choices individuals made when they ate away from home. Over 4,000 participants responded each year and a total of 12,666 people took part in the study during the three year time period. "The results underscore the importance of competitively pricing healthy foods," said Kelley E. Borradaile, Ph.D. who is a professor in the Department of Public Health and the Center for Obesity Research and Education at Temple and lead author of the study. The 12,666 participants were a representation of adult Americans across the country from ages 18 to 98 years old. The average person reported eating out five times a week in 2006.
